Summary

The U.S. Air Force proposes to use a portion of Mud Lake on the Nellis Air Force Range for an emergency runway. The general location of the project is presented in Figure 1. The proposed runway is 1.8 km (1.1 miles) east to west and 1.7 km (1.1 miles) north to south, and is near and incorporates a portion of a previously designated emergency runway on the lakebed. No cultural resources were found during the reconnaissance. Access to the runway for motor vehicles, including emergency vehicles, is by existing roads. The project will have no effect on known historic properties provided all activities are restricted to the surveyed area.
