Summary
This is a paper/report submission presented at the 2020 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology.
The study of conservation methods for textiles has expanded greatly in recent years, with an improved understanding of the complex factors affecting their preservation and stability. By comparing this to protocols in use for the conservation of nautical assemblages, where textile artifacts are rare and much more sporadically studied than other organic materials, this paper broadly outlines the current state of the field and space for potential research.
