Hands On: The Archaeological Process At Work At Strawbery Banke Museum
Author(s): Alex D. Hagler
Year: 2020
Summary
This is a poster submission presented at the 2020 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology.
Living history museums offer a unique environment for the public to experience aspects of life in the past for themselves. However, there is often very little opportunity for visitors to understand how archaeology can illuminate that understanding of life in the past. This poster will explore how demonstrating to the public the many steps necessary to turn an excavation into interpretative material can enrich the public’s experience at a living history museum, using Strawbery Banke Museum’s distinctive combination of archaeology and living history as a model.
