Cultural Resource and Probability Analysis of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson
Part of the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Resources project
Author(s): Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc.
Year: 2011
Summary
This Technical Memorandum describes the procedures used to produce geographic information system (GIS)-based cultural resource maps for Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER). These maps will assist the 673d Civil Engineer Squadron/Conservation Section (673 CES/CEANC) in meeting its cultural resource management responsibilities. The maps were developed in concurrence with the 673 CES/CEANC to satisfy the requirements of Air Force Instruction 32-7065 Section 4.9 and the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). The data presented in the Cultural Resource and Probability Study is current as of December 31, 2010. The objectives of this work were to map known historical and prehistoric features on JBER and to delineate zones of high, medium, and low potential for yielding new features in areas that have not yet been surveyed for cultural resources. This information is intended to assist in determining whether an archaeological survey of an area is important prior to undertaking development efforts (Klein 2005).The historical features located on JBER include military, homestead era, and Alaska Native (including historical and prehistoric) features.
