A Cultural Resources Assessment Survey FP&L Substation South Location, Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Brevard County, Florida
Part of the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station Resources project
Author(s): Thomas E. Penders
Year: 2010
Summary
A Phase I Cultural Resource Assessment Survey (CRAS) was conducted of the area of potential effect (APE) for the proposed Florida Power and Light (FP&L) substation on Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS). A systematic surface reconnaissance and archaeological testing was conducted of the property to located structures or remains of historic habitation of the site. An area survey was conducted of the adjacent parcels to record any potential impacts to adjoining historic properties. A surface reconnaissance survey was conducted over the entire project area and two historic scatters were found on the surface. Subsurface testing consisted of 35 shovel tests. The subsurface testing failed to identify any cultural remains. However, the 45 SW did revisit an unnamed site 8BR232 and determined the previously identified location of the southern boundary should be reassessed. A newly identified site, Artesian Well (8BR2349) is located within the project area but outside of the APE.
Includes a copy of the Florida Master Site File, Survey Log Sheet and SHPO correspondence.
