Summary
This is an abstract from the session entitled "Research, Interpretation, and Engagement in Post-Contact Archaeology of the Great Lakes Region" , at the 2021 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology.
This talk will explore the history of children on Michigan State University’s campus through the lens of archival materials and archaeology. It will consider where and when children were present on the campus; how policies governing the presence of children have evolved and changed over time on campus; events, buildings, and landscapes that were and are child-centric on campus; and what the materiality of children tells us about their experiences and daily lives at MSU. We conclude by comparing MSU’s child-related materiality and history of children on campus to other institutions of higher education.
