VAFB-2018-19: Assessment of Potential Adverse Effects to CA-SBA-689 in Support of Remediation at IRP Site 171, Vandenberg Air Force Base, California

Summary

This document is a contractor generated letter report consisting of a historic property inventory and an assessment of adverse effects associated with the Remediation at IRP Site 171 Project. The purpose of the letter is to compile any prior or current studies performed in support of the remediation at IRP Site 171 project as a single Section 106 report. To support their National Historic Preservation Act Section 106 compliance requirements, the 30th Civil Engineer Squadron, Installation Management Flight, Environmental Section, Environmental Assets (30 CES/CEIEA) at Vandenberg AFB issued a Statement of Work (SOW) that requested an archaeological investigation within the access road to assess whether significant deposits at CA-SBA-689 might be adversely affected by Project activities. Applied EarthWorks was tasked with supporting the 30 CES/CEIEA Section 106 compliance effort through an on-call contract providing environmental and cultural resources support for the IRP program. Tasks associated with Section 106 compliance that were completed by Applied EarthWorks include background research, archaeological testing to assess potential adverse effects, and report preparation. The report specifically examines project impacts and/or avoidance strategies for one archaeological site; CA-SBA-689.
