Archaeological Survey in Support of Replacement Runway 07-25 Environmental Assessment

Author(s): Isla Nelson

Year: 2019

Summary

Between June 25 and July 12, 2019, Cardno conducted a Phase I archaeological survey at the request of the 19th Airlift Wing at Little Rock Air Force Base. The Base proposes to repair by replacement Runway 07-25 and associated overruns. No prehistoric cultural resources were encountered during the course of the archaeological investigation. A surface scatter of historic artifacts was identified in the southwest corner of the airfield and recorded as Site Number 3PU1041. Multiple undecorated historic ceramics were observed on the surface, but subsurface investigations did not yield additional artifacts and indicated extensive disturbance. The site does not appear to have integrity and has a low likelihood of yielding information important to history or prehistory.
