Summary

TRC Mariah Associates Inc. completed a Class III cultural resource inventory for a water tower pipeline on Kirtland Air Force Base, Bernalillo County, New Mexico. An original survey (43.6 acres [17.6 ha]) was conducted by TRC Mariah on February 28 and 29, 1996. Three previously recorded sites were located during this survey. Two sites, LA 2014 and LA 38135, fell within the impact area. One site, LA 38134, was adjacent to, but outside of, the impact area. All three of these sites had been recommended as eligible.

Consequently, the line was rerouted to avoid LA 2014 and LA 38134. The survey of the reroute (44.7 acres [18.1 ha]) was conducted on October 23, 1996. This report presents the results of both the original and reroute survey.

The reroute survey determined that the line still crosses LA 38135, and one isolated occurrence was documented. LA 38135 is a multicomponent site. Since its last recording, the data potential of this site has been severely compromised by recreational vehicular traffic, and recent trash dumping episodes. Therefore, the eligibility recommendation for this site has been changed to unknown. The isolated occurrence's data potential has been exhausted during survey.
