Cultural Resource Review for a Proposed Salvage Yard, Sandia National Laboratories, Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico

Author(s): Steven R. Hoagland

Year: 1990

Summary

An archaeological review of approximately 9.67 acres of property scheduled for use as a salvage yard at Sandia National Laboratories, Kirtland Air Force Base (KAFB), Bernalillo County, New Mexico, yielded no cultural resources. No significant artifacts or cultural features were observed during a previous cultural resource inventory which included the proposed yard (Rodgers 1978). The proposed yard is greatly disturbed as it has recently been bladed, graveled and fenced or walled. It also currently contains Facility 996, a movable metal building which is slated to serve as the Salvage Warehouse.

Since no significant cultural resources will be effected by the proposed undertaking, cultural resource clearance is recommended for use of the 9.67 acre area as a salvage yard.
