Summary
During July 1993, Advanced Sciences, Inc. conducted a cultural resource survey of a proposed fence line, as well as the area inside of the proposed fence, for the Explosives Devices Test (EDT) Facility at Sandia National Laboratories/New Mexico (SNL/NM). This project was performed on land owned by Kirtland Air Force Base. The total project area covered by this survey is approximately 10 acres (4 hectares). This report discusses the reconnaissance performed for the project, inclusive of a 50 foot (15 meter) buffer area around the perimeter of the project area.
Portions of the project area have undergone extensive construction and maintenance disturbance associated with the current approximately 4 acres (1.6 ha) facility at the existing Explosives Devices Test (EDT) facility.
No prehistoric or historic cultural resources were located within the proposed project area. A single historic site, LA 48096, is located well outside of any planned construction and/or testing activities associated with the Explosives Devices Test (EDT) Facility. It is felt that no significant cultural artifacts, features, or structures qualifying under National Register of Historic Places Criterion D are present within the inspected area.
It is recommended that cultural resource clearance be granted for this project as defined within this report.
Document also includes correspondence on this project from the Department of Energy, Health and Compliance Branch, and Sandia National Laboratories.
