Summary
Butler Service Group Inc. (BSG) conducted cultural resource surveys for approximately 27.65 acres of property situated within Kirtland Air Force Base (KAFB), Bernalillo County, New Mexico. The areas surveyed include the nine drill locales with buffer zones and an access route. Paved or dirt roads provide access into all but one of the drill site buffer zones. The two-track road providing access into the remaining drill site, Arroyo Confluence South (ACS), was surveyed.
One previously documented cultural resource site (LA 107481) and five isolated occurrences (IOs), were encountered during this. Site LA 107481 contains the remains of a destroyed historic homestead, that due to recordation, is no longer thought to be eligible to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).
The IOs include a chalcedony interior flake (IO #1) and a chert decortication flake (IO #2), that were located within the ACS Drill Site buffer zone. The remaining IOs include a small semi recent rock pile (IO #3), a coffee can (IO #4), and a solder top can (IO #5) that were documented within the CYN-1 Drill Site buffer zone. These five isolated occurrences are no longer thought to be potentially significant as all-important information has been recovered through field recordation. For this reason, these items are no longer thought to be eligible for inclusion to the National Register of Historic Places. Therefore, cultural resource clearance is recommended.
