Summary

This is an abstract from the session entitled "Paper / Report Submission (General Sessions)" , at the 2022 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology.

German colonization of the Bulu country in southern Cameroon began in the early 20th century. Opposition was led by Oba'a Mbeti, Aenjembe-Etanga, Abessolo Ackom, Obam Ebemnvock, Evina Minkoi, and Martin Paul Samba. The credit for the extinction of the Bulu revolts in the southern region goes to Lieutenant Von Bülow, the first chief of the Ebolowa military station. However, only a few of the resistance fighters have been the subject of literature and historical recognition. This is the case of Nkilli Eko'o, from Esakoï clan. This paper questions the exclusion of certain figures from national history. However, they played an important role in the development of military strategies for the liberation of local populations from European domination. In this work, the ethnographic and archaeological approaches have been effective methods to review the colonial resistance in Cameroon, the rehabilitation of leaders like Nkili Nko'o and the reconstruction of the battlefields.
