Summary

ACS/Conservation has proposed to conduct long term management activities in portions of the Arnold Air Force Base. These activities will be conducted within various Management Units designated for Forestry management and restoration efforts designed to assist in the restoration of Barrens ecological communities. Activities will include controlled burning, timber harvesting, reforestation, and selective tree removal which will result in ground disturbances. All affected Management Units have been subjected to both intensive and purposeful cultural resource management surveys and 18 were found to contain archeological properties; 20 archeological properties in all. Of these properties, 17 were judged not eligible for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places. Three properties (40CF271, 40CF272, 40CF293) have been recommended for further investigations to determined their eligibility. It is recommended that sites 40CF271, 40CF272 and 40CF293 be marked prior to the undertaking of any further management activities within Management Units 3402, 3404, and 3430 and that care be taken to preserve these properties in place until their eligibility has been determined by future investigations.
