Summary
This report presents the results of a historic buildings management review conducted on behalf of the United States Department of the Air Force at Tyndall Air Force Base, near Panama City, in Bay County, Florida. In October 2018, Tyndall Air Force Base suffered extensive damage to its built environment and infrastructure from Hurricane Michael. The intent of this study is to provide Tyndall Air Force Base with baseline information on the pre- and post-hurricane condition of buildings and structures and update the lists of buildings and structures that are in need of evaluation for listing on the National Register of Historic Places, as well as provide a list of buildings and structures no longer extant as a result of the hurricane. As a result of this study, Argonne identified 198 structures unevaluated for listing on the National Register of Historic Places constructed between the 1940s and the 1970s that survived Hurricane Michael. This study also identified an additional 274 buildings and structures that were constructed between 1980 and 1990 that will require inventory and National Register of Historic Places evaluation as they approach 45 to 50 years in age. The study further identified 346 buildings and structures that are no longer extant at Tyndall AFB.
