Summary
This summary report details the results of the First Air Force Regional Tribal Relations Meeting hosted by Grand Forks Air Force Base (GFAFB), Minot Air Force Base (MAFB), and Cavalier Air Force Station (CAFS), on March 21 and 22, 2018 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. This was the first regional-style meeting to include all three North Dakota Air Force Installations. The goal of the meeting was to continue developing and maintaining government-to-government relationships with Native American Tribes that have ancestral cultural affiliation to the United States Air Force Base (USAF) installations. The intent for this meeting was for the Tribes to identify the topics most pertinent to the interactions with Air Force Bases (AFBs) with the goal of maintaining relationships for future land management. Commanders from each installation presented an overview of their base missions, histories, and resources. During these presentations, Tribal representatives were encouraged to raise questions and concerns. This effort is driven by Air Force Instruction (AFI) 90-2002 Interactions with Federally-Recognized Tribes and in compliance with all federal and state regulatory requirements, and executive orders, and in collaboration with Base Cultural Resources Managers (CRM) and Air Force Civil Engineer Center (AFCEC) CRM Specialists.
