Historic Structure Assessments for Buildings 979, 980, 981, 982, and 999, Original Colorado Springs Municipal Airport Historic District, Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado Springs, Colorado

Summary

This report presents the results of a Historic Structures Assessment of the five buildings included in the Original Colorado Springs Municipal Airport Historic District—Building 979, City Hangar; Building 980, Maintenance/Utility Building; Building 981, Municipal Terminal Building; Building 982, Broadmoor Hangar; and Building 999, Spanish House/Caretaker’s Residence—situated on Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado Springs, Colorado. The assessment was conducted during two visits. During the week of September 21 through 24, 2009, architectural historians Jessica Forbes and Tarin Erickson from Geo-Marine, Inc., based in Plano, Texas, visited Peterson Air Force Base to conduct a facilities assessment to note the architectural conditions of the buildings, document each with digital photography, and obtain extensive historic information including maintenance records, as-built and renovation drawings (when available), real property records, and historic documentation.

On May 24, 2010, Stephen H. Lucy, PE, from Jaster-Quintanilla Dallas, LLP, Dallas, Texas, visited Peterson Air Force Base to conduct a structural engineering review of all five buildings included in the Original Colorado Springs Municipal Airport Historic District. This review documents the structural condition of each building including photography of key elements, develops recommendations regarding needed repairs and maintenance, and presents anticipated construction costs for budgeting purposes.
