Summary

On behalf of the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District contracted Potomac-Hudson Engineering, Inc. (PHE) to complete an eligibility assessment of Cold War Era resources at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, Burlington and Ocean Counties, New Jersey. An associated addendum report to this study is found at tDAR record #475488. The study was completed in accordance with Section 110 of National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and the New Jersey Historic Preservation Office (NJHPO) guidelines for architectural history survey. Field investigations included photo documentation of existing conditions and completion of NJHPO Individual Structure Survey Forms.

The survey evaluated the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility of 1,103 facilities built prior to and during the Cold War Era, with built dates between September 25, 1945 and December 31, 1991. Of the facilities evaluated, 712 facilities are considered to be not eligible based upon their property type in consultation with the NJHPO. The remaining 391 facilities were documented on NJHPO survey forms either individually or combined on single forms in logical groups. The survey recommended 389 facilities were determined not eligible for NRHP listing. Two facilities - Facility #20611: Cathedral of the Air Directory and Facility #79: Warehouse/Supply - were recommended eligible for NRHP listing as contributing resources to the National Register listed Lighter-Than-Air Historic District.
