Summary
This is an abstract from the session entitled "Paper / Report Submission (General Sessions)", at the 2023 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology.
In 2018, a survey conducted on shipwrecks in Lake Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire, USA, found that many of these sites were at risk of destruction from recreational divers and fishermen. A subsequent survey conducted in the summer of 2021 found a reliable, low-cost method of recording these shipwrecks to conserve as much data as possible. This method primarily involved creating accurately scaled 3d photogrammetric models of these sites using stereo (dual) cameras mounted to a low-cost ROV system. This project seeks to extend this work by implementing this method on a larger scale and testing it under a variety of conditions. This paper will discuss the work conducted in the summer of 2022 and the potential applications of this method in the wider world of archaeology.
