Lançar Ferro em Lisboa: A Study Of Anchors In The Lisbon Waterfront
Author(s): Francisco Mendes; Marco Freitas; José Bettencourt
Year: 2023
Summary
This is an abstract from the session entitled "Lisbon, The Tagus And The Global Navigation", at the 2023 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology.
The following paper intends to disclose the results of the study of some anchors sets found in archaeological contexts, datable from the 15th century onwards in the Lisbon waterfront. Through the study of these archaeological materials of various sizes and appearances, we hope both to provide some useful data for the research on anchors, as well as for the knowledge of the ships that carried them on board. We also intend to provide some contribution to the knowledge of the anchoring sites in Lisbon in modern and contemporary times and other dynamics that may have led our study objects to their final place of deposition.
