Summary

This is the original draft nomination form for the Boeing Michigan Aeronautical Research Center (BOMARC) Facility. The BOMARC facility contains 110 one- and two-story buildings and structures that operated as an autonomous strategic air defense missile site with a period of significance between 1959 and 1972. The historic district includes 108 contributing resources (84 missile shelters and 24 support buildings and structures), as well as the installation plan and layout, and 2 non-contributing resources. The BOMARC facility is considered NRHP eligible under Criteria A and C as representative of a keystone U.S. strategy of deterrence and defense and for its distinctive design.
