Part of the Holloman Air Force Base Resources project

Year: 1998

Summary

On April 16, 1996, a core sample was extracted from the Lost River Playa on Holloman Air Force Base (HAFB). Technicians and archaeologists from Geo-Marine, Inc. (GMI) extracted the sample under the direction of Dr. Curtis Monger of the New Mexico State University (NMSU) Pedology Laboratory and Martyn Tagg, HAFB Archaeologist. The goal of core analysis was aimed towards investigating the paleoclimatic record contained in the Lost River Playa as it pertains to archaeological studies on Holloman Air Force Base specifically, as well as its implications for the Tularosa Basin and surrounding region in general.
