A Cultural Resources Survey of 1.95 Miles of the Alamogordo 3rd Source 115 kV Transmission Line, Otero County, New Mexico

Part of the Holloman Air Force Base Resources project

Year: 2007

Summary

PNM proposes to construct a new 115kV transmission line parallel to and south of the Holloman Air Force Base Spur, within the corridor of land acquired by Holloman Air Force Base at the time it constructed the railway. The survey was a Class III 100 percent pedestrian inspection. The Holloman Spur was recorded as Site LA 155866, as it was built between 1955 and 1960. The Holloman Spur is recommended eligible for inclusion to the National Register of Historic Places under Criterion (a), as it was constructed during the Cold War era, and possibly under Criterion (d). As proposed, the construction of the Alamogordo 3rd Source 115kV transmission line will not directly affect the Holloman Spur, as it will be built adjacent to the spur line, beyond its roadbed prism.
