Earthen Buildings Identified near Celano (AQ), Abruzzo
Author(s): Gary Shaffer
Year: 2017
Summary
This report provides detailed descriptions of standing, earthen buildings examined in Abruzzo and Calabria, Italy, between 1979 and 2015. The structures date from the late 19th to the mid-20th centuries and include former dwellings and small barns. Documentation of these earthen buildings is significant, because they represent examples of a rapidly disappearing cultural resource in Italy. Regional literature reviews and field interviews supplement the study. Finally, there are comparisons of the construction techniques and ethnoarchaeological observations are offered.
