Summary
This is an abstract from the "SAA 2024: Individual Abstracts" session, at the 89th annual meeting of the Society for American Archaeology.
The Jennings site is located in the Town of Ballston, Saratoga County, New York. The site contains several different occupations that correspond with local and regional shifts in production, participation in local and regional markets, and changes in the organization of the household during the late eighteenth and first part of the nineteenth centuries. During this period, the site was part of a regional economy which helped the Town of Ballston become a major center in the Saratoga County. By 1830, however, many of the nearby industries had relocated elsewhere due to a fire in the County Courthouse. The site reverted to a small farmstead in upstate New York and produced farm and milk products. In this presentation, I will discuss the occupation of this site as well as comparisons with other contemporaneous sites in the Town of Ballston.
