Summary
This is an abstract from the "SAA 2024: Individual Abstracts" session, at the 89th annual meeting of the Society for American Archaeology.
Archaeological survey began in the central Peruvian Andes in the mid-1960s through the 1970s but was brought to a halt in the 1980s due to political unrest. Investigations into some of the early highland sites continued in the 2000s; however, there are still areas that have yet to be systematically surveyed. Digitization of the existing field survey data can be a means to improve the efficiency and accuracy of new archaeological investigations in central Peru. This method can help us achieve an understanding about landscape change and use over time, as well as identify new zones that have not yet been surveyed. In this regard, this poster presents a large-scale GIS-digitization of all the available field survey data in the Junín region of the central Peruvian Andes, including sites extending across all time periods.
