Author(s): Clayton G. Lebow; Douglas R. Harro

Year: 2002

Summary

This document is a report that documents the excavation of two test units at archaeological sites CA-SBA-1013 and CA-SBA-3615 on Vandenberg Air Force Base (VAFB). During September 2000, approximately 9,000 acres on VAFB were burned in the Harris Wildfire. Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) utility poles damaged

during the fire had to be replaced in order to provide the U.S. Air Force with continued support.

Background research and an archaeological survey of the transmission line corridor and associated access road completed after the fire identified two archaeological sites within the project area. One of the utility poles that was replaced is within CA-SBA-1013; another lies immediately outside the mapped boundaries of CA-SBA-3615. This report documents the testing completed at these pole locations.
