Summary

In 2023, Stantec staff conducted vegetation clearance, remote sensing surveys, and condition assessments at 11 separate historic cemetery sites on Eglin Air Force Base in Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, and Walton Counties, Florida. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and metal detector surveys were completed at 8WL02656 (Brown Cemetery), 8OK02824 (Carr Cemetery), 8WL02399 (Cora Bolton Cemetery), 8SR01912 (Faulk Cemetery), 8SR01979 (Land Cemetery), and 8OK02856 (Unnamed Cemetery #28), and results were integrated with previous Electrical Resistance (ER) survey results. New ER, GPR, and metal detector surveys were also carried out at 8OK03639 (Davis Cemetery), 8WL00357 (New Home Black Cemetery), and 8WL00387 (New Home White Cemetery), as well as the suspected locations of Isolated Burial Plot #3 (8OK03168) and Unnamed Cemetery #25 (8OK02967 and 8OK02969). Surface artifacts and all extant grave markers were documented in the field, and a condition assessment was created for all grave markers.
