Summary

The purpose of this supplemental report is to summarize the archeological and paleontological work accomplished in the Fort Randall area by the Missouri Basin Project and the cooperating agencies since the issuance of the Preliminary Appraisal of the Archeological and Paleontological Resources of the Fort Randall Reservoir. South Dakota, September, 1947. This includes archaeological survey in the years 1950, 1951,and 1952. Examination of identified sites took place in 1951 and 1952. In total, these investigations identified 36 sites, of which 9 are earth-lodge village sites, 8 are camp or village sites, 17 are camp sites, 1 is a historic burial site, and 1 was a pigment quarry. These identified sites bring the total sites identified in the project area to 161. The report includes descriptions of those 36 sites, and which of the 161 sites in the project area were analyzed, as well as recommendations for further analysis of sites.
