Los Alamos National Laboratory Coalition Pueblo Sites
Summary
Four Coalition period (A.D. 1150-1325) room blocks have been excavated by archaeologists at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The sites are located approximately 40 miles northwest of Santa Fe in northern New Mexico. One site (LA 4618) was excavated in the early 1990s (Schmidt 2006; Vierra et al. 2002b), and three sites (LA 12587, LA 86534, and LA 135290) were excavated as part of the Department of Energy (DOE) Land Conveyance and Transfer Project (Vierra et al. 2002a:Figure 1). Based on ceramic assemblages recovered from each of the room blocks (Dean, personal communication), the sites date to the middle Coalition (LA 86534 and LA 135290), and late Coalition (LA 4618 and LA 12587) period.
