ROI024, The Hesher Site: A Late Albee Cemetery in East Central Indiana
Summary
This is the tDAR Project page that represents Reports of Investigation 024 from the Applied Anthropology Laboratories, Ball State University. Rescue excavations at the Hesher site, a Late Woodland cemetery in Henry County, Indiana revealed 12 human burials and 26 other prehistoric features, The artifacts recovered from the site revealed connections with the nearby Commissary cemetery and the Van Nuys habitation site and with Albee phase sites in the White and Wabash River drainages. Since a portion of the Hesher site lies outside the highway right-of-way and remains undisturbed, and because of the importance of the Hesher site for resolving regional problems, it is considered to be of State and National Register quality and should be listed on both registers.
