ROI107, An Archaeological Survey of Calvert and Porter Woods Nature Preserve

Summary

This is the tDAR Project page that represents Reports of Investigation 107 from the Applied Anthropology Laboratories, Ball State University. The Applied Anthropology Laboratories (AAL) at Ball State University conducted a data enhancement project for archaeological resources in Calvert and Porter Woods Nature Preserve (CPWNP) in Montgomery County, Indiana for a FY2018 Historic Preservation Fund grant (Grant #18FFY-03). A total of 117.78 acres (47.66 hectares) of forested land was surveyed which includes identification of 14 new archaeological sites. The survey recovered 21 prehistoric artifacts, 28 historic artifacts, and 1 faunal artifact from ~118 acres of forest in CPWNP. No human remains were discovered as a result of this grant project. Cultural periods represented in the artifact assemblage are unidentified prehistoric and historic components. The average site density recorded for the project area for prehistoric sites was one site per 11.72 acres and for historic sites was one site per 39.26 acres.
