ROI108, An Archaeological Survey of Wilbur Wright Fish and Wildlife Area
Summary
This is the tDAR Project page that represents Reports of Investigation 108 from the Applied Anthropology Laboratories, Ball State University. The Applied Anthropology Laboratories (AAL) at Ball State University conducted a data enhancement project for archaeological resources within Wilbur Wright Fish and Wildlife Area, Henry County, Indiana for a FY2018 Historic Preservation Fund grant (Grant # 18FFY-05). This Historic Preservation Fund grant project included the investigation of the archaeological resources of the Wilbur Wright Fish and Wildlife Area in Henry County, Indiana with a focus on the field verification of three possible mound sites (12-Hn-26, 12-Hn-28, and 12-Hn-30) and one land parcel to the west of the Big Blue River. A total of 79.7 acres (32.3 hectares) of agricultural and forested land was surveyed (Permit # 2018010) which includes 32.57 acres of resurveyed area. Throughout the survey, 22 new archaeological sites were documented. The survey recovered 433 prehistoric artifacts and 961 historic artifacts, 57 faunal artifacts, and 83 floral artifacts from four different survey areas. Four features were identified throughout the survey. No human remains were discovered as a result of this grant project. Cultural periods represented in the artifact assemblage include precontact era Woodland and Late Woodland/Late Prehistoric components, in addition to 15 Historic components.
