1981 St. Mary's River Valley Survey (1992.035)
Summary
This project contains resources associated with a 1981 survey of the St. Mary's River Valley, including sites aboard the Naval Air Station Patuxent River's Webster Field Annex. The survey was conducted by the Southern Maryland Regional Center under the direction of Michael Smolek. Under the supervision of Southern Maryland Regional Center staff, students from the St. Mary's City Summer Field School conducted pedestrian surveys of 19 agricultural fields at Webster Field Annex. The survey identified 30 previously unrecorded sites.
No formal report was written about this project, but a subsequent Phase I of Webster Field conducted by the Southern Maryland Regional Center in 1996 reviewed the field records and catalogs and summarized them in Chapter 4 of the 2000 report "Phase I Archaeological Investigations Aboard Webster Field Annex, NAS PAX, St. Mary's County, Maryland," by Laura Galke and Alyssa Loney.
