The Annecy Project was designed as a long range geographical research effort aimed at understanding rural economic transformations in the Annecy cluse, France. A major element of this project involves the development of paleoenvironmental reconstructions. This research is being undertaken by Dr. David Siddle and his colleagues and students at the University of Liverpool, and others. Subsequent to the 1985 excavation, James Schoenwetter of the Palynology Laboratory of the Department of...
Preliminary Report on the Vertebrate Faunal Remains from the Ojo Bonito Archaeological Project (1998)
Excavations conducted by the Ojo Bonito Archaeological Project (OBAP) in 1987, 1988, and 1994 have recovered a relatively large and well-preserved faunal assemblage. In the first part of analysis, an overview of the taxonomic composition of the OBAP assemblage is provided and the diversity and proportional distribution of identified fauna are described. More in-depth analyses of intra- and intersite...

Archaeology, ethnohistory, ethnography, geology, and community development at the largest Precolumbian saltworks in the Maya world. It was occupied from at least 800 BC through the Classic collapse, and continued to be occupied throughout the Postclassic and colonial periods, with salt production...
Publications in Salvage Archeology, 11: La Roche Sites (1968)
The La Roche sites are located near the southern boundary of Stanley County, South Dakota, where the Missouri River, flowing to the east, makes a 90-degree turn to the south (Fig. 1). At this point, the high bluffs on the right bank of the river swing back and reveal a small, fertile floodplain known as the La Roche Bottoms. Prior to inundation in 1964, this bottom land and adjacent terrace contained the La Roche sites. Among these was 39ST9, one of the largest aboriginal occupations in the...
Rakita_The Mortuary Practices of the Casas Grandes Region: A Preliminary Database. (2011)
I present a preliminary regional database of mortuary practices for the Casas Grandes region of Chihuahua, Mexico. The reported prehistoric mortuary remains from the region are overwhelmingly drawn from the Paquime and Convento sites reported by Charles C. DiPeso and colleagues. Often overlooked, however, are several smaller samples that are reported with less detail. Given the complex nature of mortuary ritual from the region (especially in the late ceramic periods), the structure of the...

During March 1992, archeologists from the Western Archeological and Conservation Center conducted survey, detailed mapping, and feature recording at the missions of Guevavi and Calabazas in the Santa Cruz River Valley of southern Arizona. The most prominent features at the sites today are standing walls of Spanish-period churches. However, both sites also contain prehistoric and later historic components as well. Reverend Buck (44JC568)
Archaeological site 44JC568 (also known as the Reverend Richard Buck site, after the property’s first owner) was located about one-half mile north of Jamestown. 44JC568 was occupied from c. 1630 until c. 1650 by a series of individuals, many of them descended from Reverend Buck. Although close to Jamestown, in an area known as Neck-of-Land, the site was not located directly on navigable water. Archaeologist Seth Mallios has described Neck-of-Land as a “leading Jamestown suburb,” with 145...
