Summary

The Museum of Northern Arizona investigated four sites along the Silver King to Kyrene, East End, Transmission System. NA15,693 is the remains of a portion of the Magma Arizona Railroad Company narrow gauge line and associated features. The line was used between 1915 and 1923 to haul freight, passengers, and mail between Superior and Webster (Magma Junction). NA15,718 includes the remains of several Salado field houses and associated agricultural features. The site occupants practiced a mixed agricultural and gathering economy. NA15,721 is the remains of a prehistoric hunting and gathering campsite. No structural remains were present. The artifacts consisted almost exclusively of chipped stone. NA15,722 is the remains of a Salado field house and several check dams. The site had an agricultural economy supplemented with some gathering activities. In addition to a discussion of each site investigated in detail, the entire project, including sites recorded during the survey, is discussed in both a local or project specific context and a regional context.
