A single fill sample from a hearth at site 06-006-01 in Carbon County, Wyoming, was examined for pollen and macrofloral remains. This hearth was discovered while monitoring a construction project. This feature yielded a radiocarbon age of 8580 ± 60 BP, indicating an Early Archaic occupation of the area. Pollen and macrofloral analysis will be used to provide a description of local vegetation and subsistence information concerning plant resources utilized at this site.

The Mattei Site (38BU1765) is a Late Archaic site situated on an elevated marine sand deposit in an upland area of the Atlantic coastal strand near the May River in Beaufort County, South Carolina (Daniel Elliot, personal communication, November 12, 2019). The Skull Hearth Site (48CA214) contains Middle Plains Archaic, Late Plains Archaic, and Late Prehistoric campsites. One house pit (S2B4-F2) contained seven thermal features clustered and slightly offset from the center of the house pit that probably represent hearths and ovens. Fill from these the features was submitted and examined for pollen and phytolith evidence of economic activity.
