Charcoal (Other Keyword)
176-200 (377 Records)
A total of eleven bulk soil samples and one charcoal sample were examined to recover charcoal or other organic fragments suitable for radiocarbon analysis. Samples were recovered from terrace alluvium and flood deposits along the Owyhee River in southeastern Oregon. Botanic components and detrital charcoal were identified, and potentially radiocarbon datable material was separated.
EXAMINATION OF BULK SOIL FOR RADIOCARBON DATABLE MATERIAL FROM TRENCHES ACROSS ACTIVE FAULTS IN NORTHEASTERN NEVADA (2001)
A total of nine bulk soil samples recovered from sediments exposed in trenches excavated across active faults in northeastern Nevada were floated to recover organic fragments suitable for radiocarbon analysis. Radiocarbon ages would be used to place quantitative bounds on the ages of prehistoric earthquakes that have occurred along the faults. Botanic components and detrital charcoal were identified, and potentially radiocarbon datable material was separated.
EXAMINATION OF BULK SOIL FROM ALONG THE RIO CONEJOS, COLORADO, FOR THE PLATORO DAM PALEOFLOOD RECONNAISSANCE PROJECT (2001)
A single bulk soil sample from along the Rio Conejos in southern Colorado was floated to recover organic fragments suitable for radiocarbon analysis. This sample was examined as part of the Platoro Dam Paleoflood Reconnaissance Project. Botanic components and detrital charcoal were identified, and potentially radiocarbon datable material was separated.
EXAMINATION OF BULK SOIL FROM THE ROGERS CREEK FAULT, SONOMA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA (2001)
Two bulk soil samples from an exploratory trench across the Rogers Creek fault in Sonoma County, California, were floated to recover organic fragments suitable for radiocarbon analysis. These samples were collected for geologic purposes of constraining the timing of paleoseismic events on the fault. Botanic components and detrital charcoal were identified, and potentially radiocarbon datable material was separated.
EXAMINATION OF CHARCOAL SAMPLES FOR RADIOCARBON DATABLE MATERIAL FROM ALONG RAPID CREEK, SOUTH DAKOTA (2004)
Four charcoal samples from along Rapid Creek, South Dakota, were floated to recover organic fragments suitable for radiocarbon analysis. These samples were recovered from a soil pit excavated on a river terrace adjacent to Rapid Creek, about one mile downstream of Pactola Dam. Botanic components and detrital charcoal were identified, and potentially radiocarbon datable material was separated.
EXAMINATION OF CHARCOAL/WOOD FROM ALONG THE POWDER RIVER, NORTHEASTERN OREGON (2003)
Five charcoal samples from a floodplain along the Powder River in northeast Oregon were identified prior to radiocarbon analysis.
EXAMINATION OF DETRITAL CHARCOAL AND AMS RADIOCARBON ANALYSIS OF MATERIAL FROM ALONG GRASS VALLEY CREEK IN THE TRINITY RIVER BASIN FOR THE NORTHERN COAST RANGES OF CALIFORNIA HOLOCENE TERRACE CHRONOLOGY (2007)
Four charcoal samples from the Trinity River Basin of northern California were submitted for identification. These samples were examined as part of the northern Coast Ranges of California Holocene terrace chronology. The samples were recovered from a soil pit on a high terrace above Grass Valley Creek. Botanic components and detrital charcoal were identified, and potentially radiocarbon datable material was separated. Charcoal fragments from two of the samples were processed for AMS...

Fire and feasting. The role of plants in Brazilian shellmounds funerary rituals. (2017)
Shellmounds occurring along most of the Brazilian coast, locally named "sambaquis", testify of an occupation dated from at least 8000 to c. 1000 years BP. Although traditionally considered as waste deposits, they are now largely recognized as funerary sites constructed by sedentary fishers. The development of archaeobotanical studies in the Southern/Southeastern Brazilian coast is demonstrating the consumption of a wide variety of wild and domesticated plants, pointing to a system of mixed...
