Report and SHPO correspondence for the archaeological clearance for a field operational test and acceptance inspection of the AN/TRC Radio Set. Project activities will consist of positioning a radio set, antenna, maintenance shelter, antenna support trailer, two vehicles, and a diesel generator on a flat promontory adjacent to Building 1249.
Building 1249 (Sole Site) Disturbance Cultural Resource Investigation Holloman Air Force, Otero County, New Mexico (1993)
Report and SHPO correspondence for the Sole Site Missile Theodolite Tower (Building 1249) on Holloman Air Force Base (HAFB). The site had recently been disturbed by a military maneuver and vandalized by private individuals. HAR-005 (LA 99457) is potentially eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. The site has the potential to provide information on both aboriginal and historic military use of HAFB and the Tularosa Basin.
The Final Acre Cultural Resource Survey Holloman Air Force Base, Otero County, New Mexico (1998)
Lincoln National Forest and Holloman AFB archaeologists conducted cultural resources inventory of 1,050 acres on the HAFB Main Base between 7 February 1996 and 28 January 1997, including resurvey of 20 acres. Two noncontiguous units were surveyed, resulting in the documentation of 13 new sites (12 on Holloman AFB and one on Bureau of Land Management property) and 61 isolated occurrences, and revisitation of six previously recorded sites (none were reevaluated). This investigation represents only an initial phase in HAFB's historic preservation efforts for its World War II and Cold War legacy. It provides a prototype of management tools for the identification and treatment of additional historic properties within these historic contexts, and begins the process of recognition and preservation of HAFB's rich military history and its place in the heritage of the nation.
