During the spring of 2000, archaeologists with Lone Mountain Archaeological Services, Inc., conducted testing and salvage excavations at 14 archaeological sites administered by Holloman Air Force Base through a contract with Fort Bliss. Investigations in the well field demonstrated that many of the sites there have been reduced by erosion. Most of the artifact assemblages have been exposed and in many cases, displaced by water action.
Boles Wells Cultural Resource Survey Holloman Air Force Base, Otero County, New Mexico (1994)
Survey was conducted in a 100-m transect around the Boles Wells boundary fence (approximately 75 acres) and 595 acres in the north half of the well field for a total of 271 ha (670 acres). The survey documented 13 previously unrecorded prehistoric sites and 2 historic sites. More information on a previously recorded prehistoric site was added to existing documentation.
