In 1986 archaeologists from the Cultural Resource Management Division of the Arizona State Museum, University of Arizona, excavated a Rillito phase Hohokam settlement that lay in the path of the Tucson Aqueduct Phase B, Central Arizona Project. The site, AZ AA:12:384, nicknamed "Fastimes," was located northwest of Tucson at the northern end of the Avra Valley, some 6,7 km southwest of the Santa Cruz River. This volume is the last of five volumes that report results of the Tucson Aqueduct Phase B Project. The excavation was funded by the United States Bureau of Reclamation under Contract No. 6-CS-30-03500 from December 1985 to June 1989. Volume 5 presents provenience data for various artifact and non-artifact materials recovered from the excavations and discussed in Volumes 1, 2, 3, and 4.

In 1985, the Bureau of Reclamation directed the Cultural Resource Management Division of the Arizona State Museum to develop a research design for data recovery at 15 selected archaeological sites along the Phase B alignment of the Tucson Aqueduct portion of the Central Arizona Project.
