Site 42DV2 is a large, open, multicomponent site located near the southeast edge of the Great Salt Lake in northern Utah. This site exhibits extensive Archaic and Late Prehistoric and some Formative/Fremont deposits. Pollen and macrofloral analyses were undertaken specifically to provide information...
POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT THE RAPTOR SITE, 48SW1090, SWEETWATER COUNTY, WYOMING (1999)
Site 48SW1090 (Raptor Site) represents a Late Prehistoric, Uinta camp located on the eastern margin of the Leucite Hills. Pollen and macrofloral analyses concentrated on examination of feature fill from a deflated house structure and several hearths. The probable house structure exhibited two distinct occupational surfaces and three interior features associated with the lower occupation. In addition, three isolated features were noted to the northwest of the possible housepit that appear...
POLLEN AND ORGANIC RESIDUE (FTIR) ANALYSIS OF SAMPLES FROM SITE 48CR332, CARBON COUNTY, WYOMING (2011)
Site 48CR332, a multicomponent site, is located along the southeastern margin of the Ferris Mountains in central Wyoming. It is situated at an elevation of 6250 feet above sea level at the mouth of Sand Creek Canyon. The canyon is formed by the Ferris Mountains to the west-southwest and Bear Mountain to the south- southeast. A small intermountain basin opens to the north-northeast of the site. Nine stratigraphic pollen samples represent all five components noted at the site, which range from...
POLLEN AND STARCH ANALYSIS AT 48CA959, CARBON COUNTY, WYOMING (2002)
Site 48CA959, located in the Porcupine watershed, yielded several Late Prehistoric, small diameter, cylindrical pit/oven features. Calibrated radiocarbon ages reported for these features range from AD 390 to AD 1000. Five of the features were selected for pollen analysis in an effort to assist in identifying plants that might have been processed. In addition, four pollen and phytolith samples were examined from a stratigraphic column to obtain a record of local vegetation from slightly...
POLLEN, PHYTOLITH, STARCH, AND PROTEIN RESIDUE ANALYSIS OF GROUNDSTONE AND POLLEN AND PHYTOLITH ANALYSIS OF FEATURE FILL FROM THE EAGLE TREE SITE (48CO2920) IN THE POWDER RIVER BASIN, WYOMING (2014)
The Eagle Tree site (48CO2920) is a prehistoric campsite situated on a partial bench and terrace above an ephemeral drainage near Antelope Creek. Excavations exposed multiple thermal features from the Thunder Basin Phase. Feature BF-F1, a hearth or oven, dated to the Late Prehistoric period and yielded a groundstone metate that was submitted for pollen, phytolith, starch, and protein residue analyses. Analyses were conducted to contribute information about the function of the artifact and food...
POLLEN, PHYTOLlTH, AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS OF SAMPLES FROM THE HAGAN VILLAGE SITE, 24DW2, MONTANA (2001)
Soil samples from two bell-shaped cache pits at the Hagan Village site, 24DW2, in east-central Montana were examined for pollen, phytoliths, and macrofloral remains. Charcoal and wood from the larger pit also were submitted for identification. This site is a Late Prehistoric habitation site that has been subject to extensive disturbance from pothunting, cultivation, and grazing. Pollen and macrofloral analyses will be used to provide information concerning plant resources that might have been...
