Cultural Resources Survey of 1,925 Acres at Camp Bullis Military Reservation, Bexar County, Texas
Author(s): Ann M. Scott
Year: 1999
Summary
A pedestrian archeological survey covering 1,925 acres (779 hectares) was conducted at the Camp Bullis Military Reservation from 20 April to 10 June 1998 by Prewitt and Associates, Inc. This survey recorded 20 new sites and revisited 2 previously recorded sites. These 22 sites consist of 18 prehistoric components and 6 historic components.
One multi-component site, 41BX432, and two historic military bunkers, 41BX1276 and 41BX1277, are recommended as being eligible or potentially eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. Site 41BX432 consists of a burned rock midden and a nineteenth-century ranch site. The burned rock midden appears to be minimally disturbed, retaining much of its integrity. Associated artifacts date to the Early, Middle, and Late Archaic periods. Sites 41BX1276 and 41BX1277 are enclosed bunkers engineered by Work Projects Administration (WPA) personnel between 1938 and 1940 and were likely utilized during testing of the Triangular Division in 1939.
