Summary
At the request of The Environmental Company, Inc. (TEC), International Archaeological Research Institute, Inc. (IARII) has prepared an Archaeological Monitoring Plan (AMP) for archaeological monitoring and sampling for proposed site inspection activities at Bellows Air Force Station (BAFS), O'ahu to take place in the three areas. The Department of the Air Force has initiated consultation with the State Historic Preservation Officer. The AMP is prepared according to the general requirements and specifications of (l) the Statement of Work (SOIV) of June 10, 1997, prepared by TEC, (2) federal requirements for treatment of archaeological properties (Advisory Council on Historic Preservation 1980) and (3) the cultural resource management plan and general research design for BAFS. Much of the background material below is abstracted from Tuggle.
In the AMP, the proposed site inspection activities are referred to as the "undertaking" and the archaeological monitoring and related actions (including report preparation) are referred to as the "project." The purpose of the project is to ensure that potentially significant historic sites exposed by the undertaking are identified, recorded, and appropriately sampled.
