EMAP LA3949 Units 3 & 4 writeup 2017
Part of the EMAP Las Animas (LA 3949) – Unit Summaries project
Year: 2017
Summary
Unit 4 was a fairly well-preserved two-story room in the West Side section of the Postclassic pueblo at Las Animas Village. Other rooms to the south (Unit 5 and Units 8, 14,15) were also two story and had been filled in prehistorically so their second story floors were nearly intact. In contrast, Unit 4’s second story collapsed and only a portion of it was found, mostly in the southeast corner of the room. The lower, first-story floor of Unit 4 had been substantially remodeled. Two large roof supports were still mostly intact. Unit 4’s size (3.5 x 5.3 = 18.6 square meters) and the presence of a hearth suggest it was a habitation room. Numerous large artifacts including two ceramic jars (one a Ramos Polychrome), two whole and two partial metates, and two manos were found in association with the roof of Unit 4.
