Summary

POLLEN AND PHYTOLITH ANALYSIS AT THE HARRIS SITE, SDI 4935, CALIFORNIA:

Pollen and Phytolith analyses were conducted at the Harris Site (SDI-4935) in San Diego County, California. Stratigraphic pollen analysis was undertaken to provide information concerning past vegetation communities, as well as paleoenvironmental conditions. A single stratigraphic column was examined at 10 cm intervals to provide samples at close enough intervals for detailed interpretation of the past environment. Pollen samples were collected from groundstone to determine what plants were being processed with these tools. In addition, phytoliths were examined from two bifaces to determine whether or not they were used for processing grasses.

BLOOD RESIDUE ANALYSIS OF ARTIFACTS FROM SITE SDI-4935B (HARRIS SITE), CALIFORNIA:

The primary objective of this analysis was to determine if information derived by the analysis of blood residues retained on lithic artifacts could provide further information on prehistoric subsistence activities at the Harris site (SDI-4935B) in California.
