ORGANIC RESIDUE (FTIR) ANALYSIS OF CERAMIC SHERDS AND PROTEIN RESIDUE ANALYSIS OF LITHIC TOOLS FROM THE REEDERS CREEK WEST SITE (28ME360), MERCER COUNTY, NEW JERSEY

Author(s): Melissa K. Logan; Chad Yost

Year: 2011

Summary

Three ceramic sherds and four lithic tools from the Reeders Creek West site (28ME360) in Mercer County, New Jersey, were submitted for organic and protein residue analysis. The samples were tested for organic residues using Fourier Transfer Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Protein residue analysis was conducted using cross-over immunoelectrophoresis (CIEP). Organic residue analysis was used to identify foods cooked in the vessels represented by these sherds. Protein residue analysis was used to identify animal resources that may have been processed using the lithic tools submitted for analysis.
