Summary
The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) investigated a potential well field southwest of the community of Leupp on the Navajo Nation, and north of Meteor Crater on Hopi Tribal lands. Five well sites had been identified to assess the overall potential for developing a well field to pump ground water for delivery by pipeline to the Peabody Coal Mine as well as to Hopi and Navajo communities. Each of the well site parcels was approximately 100 acres, for a total project area of approximately 500 acres. Well Site 1, Well Site Alternate 1, Well Site 2, and Well Site 3 are on Navajo Nation land; Well Site 4 (also known as the Sunshine Well) was on land owned by the Hopi Tribe. Under an on-call contract with Reclamation, at the request of Jon Czaplicki, Archaeological Consulting Services, Ltd. (ACS) conducted an intensive Class III cultural resources survey of the five well sites to provide an inventory and assessment of cultural resources that might be affected by the proposed undertaking. Thirteen prehistoric and historic sites and 84 isolated occurrences were identified.
This document presents the photo log of the photos taken during the survey.
The photos are available at tDAR ID: 393878.
