Summary

This report includes prehistoric and historic background research, in advance of project PIN 1036.01.101. Archaeological fieldwork was conducted within the proposed project area in May 2003 to locate cultural material, and/or features and assess soil integrity. Testing was carried out by hand excavated Shovel Test Pits (STPs) measuring in all undisturbed areas within the current project boundaries. A total of 26 STPs were excavated within the current project boundaries. Two historic sites were identified. Foundation stones associated with MDS l (NYSM# 11429: Union Hotel Site) and an intact foundation associated with MDS 3 (NYSM# 11430: Hoag Site) were encountered during testing south of BIN 1-30360-3. No prehistoric sites or artifacts were encountered within the project boundaries.
