Summary

The Barrio de Tubac, Santa Cruz County, Arizona, is an archaeological preserve owned and managed by The Archaeological Conservancy (TAC). The Tubac settlement and town site are included in the National Register of Historic Places. The Barrio de Tubac is also included in the National Register of Historic Places.

On June 5, 2006, Steve Koczan from TAC monitored the digging of 13 holes for fence posts at corners and braces that were needed to repair and replace portions of the fence at the Barrio de Tubac that were damaged by high water running through the property. The fence repair and replacement project is described in a letter submitted to Arizona State Parks on April 26, 2006. This is SHPO 2000-1 073(28811). The project is funded by TAC and has been completed in accordance with the Preservation Covenant recorded in favor of the Arizona State Parks Board.

The purpose of the monitoring was to ensure that the fence construction did not affect historically important features or cultural materials. Artifacts that were encountered during the activities have been collected, analyzed, and preserved.

The monitoring activity has have been completed in accordance with the commitments included in the FY 2000 Historic Preservation Certified Grant Application and the existing Preservation Covenant. The original project at the Barrio de Tubac Archaeological Preserve was financed in part by a grant from the Historic Preservation Heritage Fund which is funded by the Arizona Lottery and administered by the Arizona State Parks Board (Project No. 64005).
